Set where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, Tangier has long captivated travelers with its rich history, vibrant culture, and storied role as a gateway between Europe and Africa. Enjoy our luxury VIP arrival services with personal assistance through immigration and customs formalities before meeting your warm, expert and English-fluent guide for the next four days. You’ll be chauffeured to your choice of fine hotels.
After breakfast, your guide will lead you through the legendary Kasbah, a fortified hillside enclave built around a 17th-century royal palace, now a museum surrounded by lovely gardens that you will visit. You will then descend through the narrow streets of the Kasbah into the ancient Medina to encounter the only U.S. National Historic Site located outside the United States, the American Legation. Morocco’s Sultan was the first national leader to recognize American independence in 1777 and later presented this grand mansion as a gift in 1821. The building’s curator will guide you through its fascinating history and remarkable collections. This afternoon, drive along the beautiful Mediterranean coast, stopping at scenic viewpoints for sweeping vistas toward Gibraltar and Spain. Your evening is free to enjoy as you wish, and your guide will be happy to recommend restaurants that showcase Tangier’s rich and varied culinary traditions. Meals: B
Following breakfast this morning, set out with your guide into the picturesque Rif Mountains to the southeast for the approximately two-hour drive to the blue city of Chefchaouen, home to one of the most beautiful medinas in Morocco. Formerly a Spanish protectorate, this charming town of blue-and-white buildings was little known to the outside world until 1920, when Spanish forces overcame a local warlord. During World War II, Jewish refugees found shelter here, and the town gradually became more widely known. Your guide will lead you through the colorful medina, its lively markets, and the historic Kasbah. Lunch is on your own, and your guide will be happy to recommend a local restaurant. Afterwards, enjoy free time to wander Chefchaouen’s winding lanes and admire its distinctive blue-washed architecture. Then head back to Tangier where your evening is free. Meals: B
