Additional Information

Day 1 - Campo Grande to Casa Caiman Lodge

On arrival in Campo Grande, gateway to the Southern Pantanal, you’ll be warmly greeted by your driver. Traveling in a comfortable private vehicle, it’s a scenic 4-hour drive to the Casa Caiman Lodge deep in the Southern Pantanal. Our intimate and stylish eco-lodge is perfectly integrated into its natural setting, surrounded by the pristine wilderness of the Caiman Ecological Reserve. This evening after dinner, you’ll set out with other Lodge guests and an expert naturalist on a Night Safari to search for nocturnal species.

Day 2 - Exploration of the Pantanal

The Amazon may be better known but the Pantanal is, in many ways, a better place to encounter South America’s diverse wildlife. The dense jungle growth of the Amazon is fascinating but it can make wildlife observation more difficult. In contrast, the open wetlands of the Pantanal are ideal for birdwatching and observing a variety of animals in their natural habitat. In fact, the Pantanal has the largest concentration of flora and fauna in the Americas and is home to fascinating species like Brazilian otters, alligators, blue macaws, parrots, toucans and Capybaras. To immerse you in the wonders of the Pantanal, a variety of included excursions are offered here in the Caiman Ecological Reserve. You can consult with our Lodge naturalists to select the ones that are best suited for your personal interests and taste for adventure. Joining other guests and an expert naturalist, here are some of the adventures you might choose today: Nature Walk: There are a variety of trails that wind their way through the forests and wetlands of the Caiman Ecological Reserve. Accompanied by an experienced naturalist guide, this excursion is an intimate and gently-paced way to observe and learn about the flora and fauna. Caiman Tour: Focusing on the immediate surroundings of the Lodge including the Environmental Interpretation Center, this is a great introduction to the Caiman Ecological Refuge and the vast estancia of which it is a part. The excursion ends at Paizinho’s Bridge, a great place to spot caimans, anacondas, marsh deer, anteater – and even the occasional jaguar. Meals B+L+D

Day 3 - Deep in the Southern Pantanal

Enjoy another full-day of guided excursions designed to immerse you in the wild beauty of the Pantanal. With other Lodge guests and an engaging naturalist guide, here are some of the excursions that you might choose: Jeep Safari: Specially adapted 4x4 open safari vehicles afford great views for all guests as you explore the farther reaches of our vast Ecological Refuge. And with our sharp-eyed naturalist, your wildlife sightings might include a variety of primates including howler monkeys and the elusive capuchin monkey. Canoe Adventure: Quietly paddling along the waterways of the Refuge is a delightful way to observe and learn about the indigenous flora and fauna – including a wide variety of water birds. Photo Safari: Accompanied by an expert guide and traveling by jeep, you’ll follow a route that promises myriad opportunities to capture the raw beauty of the Pantanal and its wildlife inhabitants. Please note that the excursions offered during your stay may vary based upon weather and other local conditions. Meals B+L+D

Day 4 - Another Day in the Pantanal

Thrill to another day of exploration! In addition to the naturalist-guided included excursions mentioned above, our Lodge also offers additional experiences such as a 3-hour horseback ride through diverse landscapes and birdwatching with an expert guide, showcasing the rich biodiversity at Caiman, where around 350 bird species have already been recorded. Meals B+L+D Please note that the excursions offered during your stay may vary based upon weather and other local conditions.
